Truck carrying RBI money breaks down near Aravakurichi

Tension prevailed in Aravakurichi on Wednesday morning after one of the two trucks carrying Rs 1,200 crore that belongs to the Reserve Bank of India had to halt here for a while after it developed a snag. The problem was rectified by mechanics brought from Madurai after which both trucks left for Thiruvananthapuram around 2.10 pm.

According to sources, the money was transported from Nasik to Mysore by train and two trucks carrying Rs 1,200 crore allotted for Thiruvananthapuram Reserve Bank branch left on Tuesday night with high security. 

When the trucks reached Aravakurichi in Karur on Wednesday morning, one of them sustained a technical snag in the gear box and both vehicles were eventually stopped. Armed personnel were guarding the trucks until the problem was rectified. As drivers couldn’t set right the problem with the help of locals, mechanics from Madurai arrived at the spot around 1 pm and replaced the broken gear shaft. The truck resumed its journey around 2.10 pm. Meanwhile, the information about the halt of two trucks with huge money spread like a wild fire and the public thronged to the spot to inspect the vehicles.
