Trio steals Rs 10L from house of retired IAS official; nabbed

All three are from Kanathur and were engaged by a contractor, police said.

CHENNAI: City police on Tuesday arrested three persons for allegedly stealing Rs 10 lakh cash from the house of a retired IAS officer, in Kanathur off East Coast Road (ECR).

Police said they received a complaint on September 10 that cash inside the locker at the house of retired IAS official Sathyamoorthy (65), where renovation works were underway for the past 10 days, was found missing.

After perusing the CCTV footage, police confirmed that there was no movement of unknown persons in the neighbourhood and the needle of suspicion fell on three workers -- Martin (52), Sundar (62) and Babu (40).

All three are from Kanathur and were engaged by a contractor, police said.

Police recovered Rs 7 lakh from them. They were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
