Trio behind series of snatchings held, 26 phones, bikes seized

A gang of three men who indulged in a series of snatchings across the city were arrested by Nolambur police on Saturday and as many as 26 mobile phones and two bikes were recovered from them.

 The accused, S Ponnarasan (21), S Sabari (21) of Ayanambakkam and G Akash Kumar (20) of Athipattu were secured based on a complaint by G Thangakumar (44) of West Mogappair. Thangakumar was deprived of his phone by the bike-borne trio on September 2.

 While the suspects were secured with the help IMEI tracker, an investigation revealed that the three men were behind of series of snatching incidents in different parts of the city. As many as 26 phones worth lakhs were seized from them and two bikes used for the offences were also seized. The trio was remanded in judicial custody on Saturday.

 Similarly, Avadi police arrested two snatchers and seized three mobile phones and a two-wheeler from them. The accused R Suresh (19) and B Rishi (19) of Tirunindravur were remanded in judicial custody. The duo snatched a phone from a pedestrian in Avadi last week. Meanwhile, Tirunindravur police have seized 15 sovereigns from two men who robbed pedestrians and burgled houses in their jurisdiction. The accused M Manikandan (22) and V Joshua alias Lawrence (20) of Perambur were remanded.
