After one of the victims, J Charukesi, the Postmaster General of India Post’s Chennai office, lost her handbag containing a mobile phone, cash, debit/credit cards and house keys to bike-borne snatchers on March 8 at Kalakshetra Avenue, she had filed a complaint with the Tiruvanmiyur police.

Based on this, the police registered a case and secured the suspects with the help of CCTV footage. Among those arrested are D Karthik (20) of Injambakkam, a second-year BCom student at a private college, and S Ganesh Kumar (18) of Injambakkam, a painter. The third suspect is identified to be a juvenile. Police said the trio, on a scooty, snatched mobile phones and handbags from pedestrians across the city. While the juvenile was sent to an observation home, the other two were remanded in judicial custody. Further investigations are on to find whether the accused have any previous cases pending against them.
