CHENNAI: In a tragic event, an 11-month-old boy died and his parents were injured after their auto-rickshaw rammed into a median on the Vandalur-Minjur Outer Ring Road (ORR), on Monday.

Police said the parents were travelling to their relative’s house to invite them to their baby’s first birthday celebration on December 20.

Nanda Kumar (28), of Tiruvallur Nagar in Guduvanchery, was an auto driver and his wife Archana (25), had an 11-month-old baby Thuvarasanth. As Thuvarasath will turn one in the next 10 days, the parents printed invitations and visited their friends and relatives to invite them to the birthday party.

All three were travelling in Nanda Kumar’s auto on the Vandalur-Minjur Outer Ring Road, on Monday morning. When nearing Malayambakkam, near Kundrathur, Nanda Kumar lost control of his auto rickshaw and it hit the median and turned turtle.

Soon the onlookers rushed all three to a private hospital in Nazarathpet. However, the baby died without responding to treatments. The Kundrathur police visited the spot and sent the body for an autopsy. The police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
