The victims were identified as Vallikannan, Ammu and their family members including children who reached Pulicat in a car. It is said that a group of men allegedly tried to misbehave with the women and Vallikannan who confronted them was brutally attacked by the gang, before they escaped with Ammu’s three-sovereign chain.

Vallikannan was rushed to Ponneri Government Hospital and was referred to Government Stanley Hospital.

However, when contacted, the local police claimed that there was no formal complaint from the victims and so no case was registered.

A senior official when intimated about the local police’s response said that he would look into the matter.
