Three students arrested for clash in Royapuram railway station

CHENNAI: Three college students including a juvenile who were involved in a clash at Royapuram Railway station on Friday were arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) on Saturday.

Police began probe after a video of the two groups of students clashing in the railway station premises went viral on social media.

Police said that the youths were students of a city college and they were travelling towards the train to Arakkonam.

At the Royapuram railway station, they started hurling stones at each other and started attacking.

Passengers who witnessed their rowdy acts panicked and alerted the police personnel, who detained few students.

Subsequently, on Saturday, police arrested Srikanth, 19 and Vijay Santhosh, 19 and a minor boy who recently joined college. The juveline was admitted to a government home while the other two were remanded to judicial custody.

Police investigations revealed that the arrested persons were part of the group which also indulged in violence in Korukkupet railway station a week ago.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the clash pertained to claiming supremacy in the train route. Search is on for other youths involved in the clash.
