Three women — Narmada, Nirmala and Mallikha — were the main contestants for the panchayat president post at Seemapuram village in the Minjur police station jurisdiction.

When the results came, Narmada won the election. However, as Mallikha’s husband Govindaraj was the previous president of the same panchayat, his men were upset over the results and a clash broke out between the two factions on Tuesday.

Narmada’s supporters — Harinath (20), Boopalan (60) and Subramani (50) — were attacked by Mallikha’s supporters with wooden logs. The trio suffered injuries and was admitted to a hospital.

Based on their complaint, the Minjur police registered a case and arrested Senthil Murugan and Arul Murugan. A hunt has been launched for one more suspect identified as Rajendran. Further investigation is on.
