Temporary bus termini opened at Island Grounds and Royapuram ahead of Broadway revamp

The temporary arrangements have been made to ensure uninterrupted bus services during the redevelopment work

CHENNAI: In view of the redevelopment of the Broadway Bus Terminus, Transport and Electricity Minister SS Sivasankar, along with Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister and Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority Chairperson PK Sekarbabu, inaugurated temporary bus termini at Island Grounds and Royapuram on Saturday morning.

The temporary arrangements have been made to ensure uninterrupted bus services during the redevelopment work. The Metropolitan Transport Corporation has announced revised operating points and routes from the two temporary termini.

Bus services from Royapuram temporary bus terminus

From Royapuram, several routes will operate via Anna Salai, including 11, 21, 26, 52, 54, 60, 10E, 11G, 11M, 155A, 17E, 17K, 188C, 188ET, 18A, 18A Cut, 18B, 18D, 18E, 18K, 18P, 18R, 18RX, 18X, 21C, 26B, 26G, 26K, 26M, 26R, 51D, 513, 52B, 52G, 52K, 54G, 54L, 5C, 60A, 60D, 60G, 60H, 88C, 88K, 88K ET, 9M ET, A51, D51 ET, E18, E51 and M51R.

Routes operating via EVR Salai include 50, 101CT, 101X, 53E, 53P, MID, 71E, 71H, 7IV, 120, 120CT, 120F, 120G, 120K and 150.

Royapuram bus terminus

Buses approaching Royapuram via Anna Salai and EVR Salai will halt at the existing Nurse Quarters bus stop and the High Court bus stop on North Fort Road to drop passengers, before proceeding to the Royapuram temporary bus terminus through Rajaji Salai. Buses departing from Royapuram towards Anna Salai and EVR Salai will pick up passengers at the Paris Corner signal and the High Court bus stop and then continue on their original routes.

Bus services from Island Grounds temporary bus terminus

From Island Grounds, routes operating via Kamarajar Salai include 6, 13, 60E, 102, 109, 102C, 102K, 102P, 1025, 102X, 109A, 109X, 21G, 21L and 21E ET.

Routes via Beach Station include 1, 4, 44, 330, 33L, 38A, 38G, 38H, 44C, 44CT, 4M, 56D, 56D ET, 56J, 56K, 56P, 57D, 57F, 57H, 573, 57M, 8B, C56C, C56C ET and 557A ET. Routes via Mannady include 33B, 56C and 56F.

Island Ground bus terminus

Buses operating via Beach Station will drop passengers at the Paris Corner signal and the High Court bus stop on North Fort Road before proceeding to Island Grounds via the Muthusamy flyover. Services via Mannady Road will reach Island Grounds by taking a right turn at Esplanade Road and using the Muthusamy flyover.

Island Ground bus terminus

Buses running via Kamarajar Salai will turn left at the Paris Corner signal, drop passengers at the existing Paris Corner bus stop, and proceed to Island Grounds through NSC Bose Road and Esplanade Road. On return trips, these buses will use the Muthusamy flyover, turn right at Esplanade Road, halt at the Dare House bus stop on NSC Bose Road for boarding and alighting, and then resume their original routes via Paris Corner.

Routes operating via EVR Salai include 15, 20, 15F, 15G, 17D, 20A, 20D, 50ET and 50M. Services via Vepery include 35, 42, 242, 142B, 142P, 35C, 42B, 42C, 42D, 42M, 64C, 64K, 64K ET, 7E, 7H, 7K, 7M and 7M ET.

Buses operating via EVR Salai and Vepery will drop passengers at the Nurse Quarters bus stop, turn right, and proceed to Island Grounds through the Muthusamy flyover.

On return journeys, they will pick up passengers at the Government General Hospital bus stop and continue on their respective routes.

Buses departing from the Island Grounds temporary bus terminus towards Beach Station will travel via the Muthusamy flyover, turn left, and stop at the Rangavilas bus stop on Esplanade Road and NSC Bose Road for passenger boarding.
