Teenager electrocuted at stormwater drain worksite near Pallavaram

The police said that the incident happened on Selva Vinayagar Koil Street where stormwater drain works have been under way for the last few days.

CHENNAI: An 18-year-old boy, younger brother of a contract worker, was electrocuted when he went to visit his elder brother at a storm water drain work site at Pammal near Pallavaram on Saturday (August 23) evening.

The police said that the incident happened on Selva Vinayagar Koil Street where stormwater drain works have been under way for the last few days.

The deceased was identified as Dev Gulatar of West Bengal. According to the officials, he had come to Chennai a week ago and was staying with his elder brother, Goyal (26).

Around 3 pm on Saturday, Dev went to the worksite to give food to his brother, and stepped on a damaged cable of a road drilling machine and collapsed to the ground.

Other workers immediately rescued him and rushed him to the Government Hospital in Chromepet.

However, the doctors who examined him said he had already died. On receiving information, the Shankar Nagar police secured the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.

The police have registered a case and are investigating.
