Tech fest of IIT-M to begin on January 3

Shaastra, the technical festival of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras that is one of the largest such event in South India, will begin on January 3. The four-day event is set to host a wide range of events across the spectrum. This techno fest will feature never-seen-before flagship events like artificial intelligence confluence and blockchain summit.

Speaking to the media persons, Bhaskar Ramamurthi, director, IIT Madras, said, “Shaastra 2019 will be an eye opener to school students to know about the possible opportunities that await them. This event would be an experiential learning for school students. Shaastra is going on for 20 years now and features many interesting events. Besides technical events, it has workshops on hot topics such as artificial intelligence and blockchain. Further, this year we are also taking participants and school students to IIT Madras Research Park and giving them an exposure on how a start-up is set up.”


Shaastra Relaunch is a novel event to help women in tech and managerial fields to return to their careers. The conference, which would be held on January 5 and 6, envisages a knowledge filled event with noteworthy speakers, intriguing workshops, mentorship and professional level networking with delegates from world-class companies. Shaastra 2019 is also organising the ‘Institute Open House’, on January 3 and 4 during which participants would be given a tour of several laboratories in IIT Madras. The participants also get to visit the IIT Madras Research Park that houses a number of start-ups.
