Tanker truck carrying 30 tonnes of concrete mix overturns on Bengaluru-Chennai highway

CHENNAI: Traffic was affected on the Bangalore-Chennai National Highway near Sriperumbudur after a concrete mixer turned turtle on Saturday.

A lorry loaded with around 30 tonnes of concrete mixer was speeding on the Bangalore-Chennai NH from Kancheepuram.

When the lorry driver attempted to make a turn towards Kundrathur Road near Sriperumbudur, he lost control of the vehicle and it turned turtle on the road. Onlookers who rushed to the spot, and rescued the driver who was stuck inside. He was taken to a nearby hospital.

Within a few minutes, heavy smoke started to emit from the lorry. Soon, the Sriperumbudur fire and rescue team rushed to the spot and put it out. Meanwhile, the police diverted the vehicles to the alternate route.

A while later, with the help of a JCB, the lorry was lifted and moved away. Following the incident, the traffic was affected on the NH for an hour. The police have registered a case and further inquiry is on.
