TIRUVALLUR DISTRICT

District details: Tiruvallur district has South Asia’s biggest Ambattur Industrial Estate, 1,430 acres, consisting of around 1,800 SSI units. It was opened in 1964. Incumbent MLA of Avadi, S Abdul Rahim was appointed Minister for BC and Minorities Welfare in 2013, during the 10th shuffle of the State cabinet.  The MLA of Madhavaram, V Moorthy was made Dairy Development Minister during the fourth reshuffle in 2011 and post the Aavin scam, was sacked in 2014. The district has a literacy rate of 84.03%. In the 2011 Assembly election, there were 134 contestants.

6. AVADI

Total no of voters: 2,77,885

Votes polled: 1,99,538

Polling percentage: 71.21% 

Winner: Abdul Rahim S (AIADMK)

Runner-up: Dhamotharan R (INC)

Margin: 43,238 votes

A newly formed assembly constituency. An area with defence establishments.

Winning Party: AIADMK (2011) 

7. MADURAVOYAL

Total no of voters: 2,69,513

Votes polled: 1,85,925

Polling percentage: 69.00%

Winner: Beem Rao. G (CPM)

Runner-up: Selvam K (PMK)

Margin: 24,011 votes

A newly constituted assembly constituency. It was part of the Villivakkam Assembly segment. Winning Party: CPM (2011)

8. AMBATTUR 

Total no of voters: 2,64,990 

Votes polled: 1,86,347

Polling percentage: 70.59% 

Winner: Vedhachalam. S (AIADMK)

Runner-up: Ranaganathan. B (DMK)

Margin: 22,717 votes

A newly formed assembly constituency carved out of Villivakkam. It is part of Sriperumbudur parliament constituency. Industrial belt.

Winning Party: AIADMK (2011)

9. MADHAVARAM 

Total no of voters: 2,75,626

Votes polled: 2,07,325

Polling percentage: 75.25%

Winner: Moorthy V (AIADMK)

Runner-up: Kanimozhi N S (DMK) 

Margin: 34,765 votes

Madhavaram taluk formed in 2009 bifurcating the large Ambattur taluk. A newly formed assembly constituency Madhavaram, is carved out of Villivakkam assembly segment. 

Winning Party: AIADMK (2011)

10. TIRUVOTTIYUR 

Total no of voters: 2,21,495

Votes polled: 1,64,716

Polling percentage: 74.41%

Winner: Kuppan K (AIADMK)

Runner-up: Samy K.P.P. (DMK)

Margin: 27,291 votes

The winning party of the constituency, forming the government from 1989. Constituency dominated by fishing community.

Winning Parties: AIADMK (2011), DMK (2006), ADMK (2001), DMK (1996), ADK (1991), DMK (1989)
