In a petition to the Greater Chennai Corporation, T Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association pointed out that the existing stormwater drains in many residential areas in T Nagar are yet to be desilted. “Even the newly constructed drains need immediate maintenance to make them viable,” the association said.

VS Jayaraman of the association said almost all residential apartments are more than 2-3 decades old. “When these were constructed, the floor level of the apartments was two to three feet above the road level. Now it is quite opposite as the road level has gone up considerably, pushing the floor level of the apartments very low,” he added.
