Suriya Devi taunts cops, posts video from Marina

Even as the city police and city Corporation officials are searching for her to keep her under quarantine after testing positive for coronavirus infection, Suriya Devi, the woman who became famous after unleashing a barrage of online attacks against actress Vanitha Vijayakumar, has been cocking a snook at the authorities, posting videos taken at public spaces, including Marina beach.

Based on a complaint by sanitary inspector Ramesh of Zone 10 of Greater Chennai Corporation, the Virugambakkam police registered a case under Epidemics Act and have launched a hunt for her. In the complaint, the sanitary inspector said Suriya Devi tested positive for COVID-19 infection on Saturday. But she was not found in her house when the officials reached there on Sunday to take her to the hospital for quarantine.

However, she posted a video on the same day claiming that she had not gone into hiding as charged by the authorities, and alleged that the police were mistreating her.

In the latest video that was posted on Monday, she is seen travelling in an autorickshaw and roaming in Marina beach. “I have given samples for COVID test privately because I don’t believe in tests conducted by the government. I am now waiting for the results,” she says while walking on the beach.

Meanwhile, the Porur-SRMC police have registered a case against Vanitha Vijayakumar for violating lockdown norms based on a complaint lodged by the fellow resident of the apartment where Vanitha’s wedding took place. The actress has been booked under Sections 188 and 269 of IPC since the complainant has stated that Vanitha gathered about 20 people in the apartment without getting prior permission from the authorities concerned and has submitted the CCTV footage of the actress holding a wedding shoot in the apartment premises.
