Street vendors asked to furnish bank details

The Greater Chennai Corporation asked street vendors in the city to furnish their bank account and contact details to avail third instalment of Rs 1,000 announced by the government.

According to a Chennai Corporation statement, of the 27,195 registered street vendors in the city, as many as 14,633 street vendors have furnished details and availed Rs 2,000 in two instalments of Rs 1,000 each.

“Another Rs 1,000 will be given to the registered street vendors. So, registered street vendors, who did not avail the first two instalments, can provide street vendors’ identity cards, bank account and other details at the respective zonal offices,” the statement said. When asked the reason for several vendors opting out from availing the benefit, an official explained that the civic body could not trace several vendors.
