The Maduranthagam court, in 2013, had ordered a compensation of Rs 29 lakh to the family of Ramesh from Shakthi Nagar in Chengalpattu, who died after being hit by a government bus. The department, however, filed an appeal before the High Court pleading that the amount be slashed.

However, the High Court deemed that the compensation was not enough, and instead of reducing, enhanced it to Rs 62.5 lakh along with interest. Following this, the department paid Rs 29 lakh as originally fixed by Maduranthagam court but failed to pay the rest.

On December 28, Maduranthagam court issued a notice to the department, directing it to pay the remaining amount. As the money was not paid even after that, the court ordered the attachment of the depot and the bus.
