Speeding bike kills mother, 6-month-old in Aminjikarai

Police have detained two youngsters, including a woman, who was riding pillion in the bike in connection with the accident.

CHENNAI: A 28-year-old woman and her six-month-old child were killed after a speeding bike hit them while crossing the road near Aminjikarai on early Sunday morning, in a suspected case of drunk driving.

Police have detained two youngsters, including a woman, who was riding pillion in the bike in connection with the accident.

The deceased woman was identified as Poonguzhali, a resident of NSK nagar near Aminjikarai.

When the accident happened around 3 am, Poonguzhali was carrying her six-month-old daughter and attempted to cross the road and the speeding biker hit her. The woman and the child were thrown to the ground in the impact. Passerby who witnessed the incident rushed to their rescue and moved them to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, where both of them were declared brought dead.

Police are investigating.
