CHENNAI: Chennai Division GV of Southern Railway on Sunday observed ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’ & celebrated Gandhi Jayanthi at Dr MGR Central Railway station. B.G. Mallya, General Manager of Southern Railway, Mr Ganesh, Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai and Renuka G. Mallya, President of Southern Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (SRWHQO) and heads of various departments took part in the event.
During the fortnight long cleanliness program, special drives on different themes Swachh Awareness, Swachh Samwad (cleanliness dialogue/in-house), Swachh Stations (clean stations), Swachh Train (clean train), Swachh Colonies (clean residential premises), Swachh Office, Swachh Tracks and Yards, Swachh Water Bodies and parks (clean water) were organized. Painting and poster competitions, debates on the theme of cleanliness, essay competition on the topic of waste management were also organized for school children and railway wards from September 16 to October 02.
B.G. Mallya and others distributed prizes and certificates to the winners and participants of the events. They also flagged off a cycle rally of Scouts and Guides to spread awareness about cleanliness in various colonies/stations of Chennai Division.
An exhibition on the performance and efficiency of Chennai Division Environment & House keeping department, showcasing various aspects of cleanliness and Waste Managements was also inaugurated Sunday morning, a statement issued by SR said.
