In the first incident that was reported on Monday, a woman sub-inspector of Railway Protection Force was gagged and robbed of a 2.5 sovereign chain by an unidentified man in the backyard of her house in ICF East Colony.

When Mallika went to the backyard to wash her face, a man, who entered from the other side, gagged her.

He pushed her down and snatched her chain before fleeing the spot. ICF police have registered a case and are investigating.

In the second instance, a four-member gang robbed a gold ring and a mobile phone at knifepoint from a railway staff at Velachery MRTS station on Tuesday.

The victim, Vinoth (44) of Velachery, who is working as a technical staff at Chennai Beach railway station, was waiting on the platform to board a train as he was posted on night duty on Tuesday. Four men threatened him at knifepoint and robbed him.

Hearing his cries for help, police on duty at the station nabbed one of the gang members, while the other three fled the spot.

It was a retired college principal who fell prey to snatchers who snatched his bag containing Rs 60,000 after diverting his attention, in Royapettah on Wednesday.

S Natarajan (79) of Royapettah was returning home after withdrawing Rs 60,000 from a bank around 12.30 pm when a bike-borne duo followed him up to Lloyds Colony and threw cow dung on him. Thinking that something might have fell from a tree, Natarajan bent to pick a paper to dust it off. Using the opportunity, the duo snatched his bag and sped away.

Natarajan fell on the road and suffered injuries on his hands and legs.

His cries for help went vain, as there was none around. Later, he lodged a complaint at Ice House police station.
