Smartphones worth Rs 70 lakh arrive as N95 masks, seized

Customs officials seized smartphones worth Rs 70 lakh which were concealed in a package which contained medical accessories at the foreign post office here on Thursday.

The Chennai Customs officials were checking the packages which came from the foreign countries to the foreign post office in Chennai when they came across a parcel, on which it was mentioned as containing N95 masks. On suspicion, they opened the parcel and found the latest model of Samsung Galaxy 5G smartphones concealed beneath the masks. The officials seized 40 smartphones worth Rs 70 lakh.

The Customs officials, who registered a case, are trying to trace the sender and also the buyer who tried to smuggle in the smartphones in the garb of medical accessories.
