Police said when they attempted to stop a Tata Indica car as part of their routine check, it sped past ignoring the cops’ call. Sensing that there is something fishy, Mambalam law and order inspector Krishnamurthy and team chased the car and intercepted the vehicle quickly.
Police then arrested S Vetrivel (25) of Mogappair, S Jayaganesh (29) of Mogappair, P Ganeshan (25) of CIT Nagar, G Maheswaran (23) of CIT Nagar and P Panchatcharam (32) of Nandanam and recovered four machetes from their custody.
Police said all the six arrested persons were close associates of C D Mani. Police said Vetrivel and Ganesh are brothers and Jayaganesh was a murder accused. Vetrivel has also been accused in an attempt to murder case.
Police said Panchatcharam has been an informer for C D Mani and gang, helping them with inputs on their targets. Police team then seized the Indica car they used, machetes and wooden logs carried by the gang. Police suspect that the gang would have been on their way to commit a crime as they were moving with the weapons.
C D Mani and gang had been accused of attempt to murder of DMK functionary Jagan alias Jaganathan earlier this year.
