The accused identified as Shihabudeen alias Sirajudeen alias Khalid, 39, a resident of Chennai, was detained by immigration authorities based on lookout circular on his arrival from Qatar. The NIA said he had procured the firearm and ammunition used by Abdul Shammem and Thofeeq who had shot and stabbed Wilson on the night of January 8, 2020, while the officer was on duty at the check-post along Kaliyakkavilai Market Road in Kanniyakumari district. The murder was believed to be a revenge act against TN police who had initiated a crackdown against ISIS module in the State at that time.

During NIA investigation, the roles of accused ISIS TN module head Khaja Mohideen his associates Mahboob Pasha, Ejaz Pasha, Jaffer Ali and Shihabudeen came to light. Though six persons were already arrested, Shihabudeen had left the country in January last year. On his return on Wednesday, he was arrested and remanded, the NIA said.
