Based on news reports about the video, SHRC member A Chittaranjan Mohandoss has taken the case and called for a report. “The matter will be listed for further consideration before the Commission after three weeks, and you (SP) are required to submit the report by post without fail,” said the SHRC member in the notice.

The Commission also warned that in the event of any default, it would proceed to take action as it deemed fit and proper.

The incident that was reported by the media was based on a video clip that showed sub-inspector Marimuthu and two other police personnel in plainclothes thrashing a man using PVC pipes near a Tasmac shop in Minjur. SI Marimuthu is already facing allegation of manhandling a senior citizen a month ago, and a petition was submitted seeking action against him.
