School bags destroyed in fire at Corpn school in Arumbakkam

As many as 25 schoolbags of students of a Corporation middle school went up in flames after a fire broke out due to a short circuit in Arumbakkam on Thursday.

CHENNAI: As many as 25 schoolbags of students of a Corporation middle school went up in flames after a fire broke out due to a short circuit in Arumbakkam on Thursday. The accident happened when the students had assembled on the ground for the morning prayer. None were injured in the incident. While Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Koyambedu put off the fire immediately, Priya Ravichandran, Joint Director (North Region) of TNFRS visited the school and distributed new schoolbags to the students of Class 7 students whose bags were damaged in the fire. District Fire Officer Saravanan told DT Next that sparks from a tube light due to a short circuit fell on the schoolbags, triggering a fire.
