Rs 1.5 cr USD, gold worth Rs 42 lakh seized at airport, one arrested

Three from Sri Lanka were detained and seized three gold chains from them. Later two who arrived from Sharjah were found carrying 10 gold bits concealed inside the laptop charger.

Customs officials seized US dollars equivalent to Rs 1.15 crore and gold worth Rs 42.27 lakh at the Chennai airport. 

AIU officers intercepted a Sharjah-bound passenger on Monday morning and found US dollars equivalent to Rs 1.15 crore ingeniously concealed in check-in baggage. 

The same was recovered and seized under the provisions of the Customs Act. The passenger was arrested. 

Similarly, officials seized 944 grams of gold valued at Rs 42.27 lakh in two incidents.
