CHENNAI: Chennai police on Wednesday seized Rs 1.08 crore unaccounted cash from two persons near Broadway. The duo attempted to flee on seeing the cops after which they were intercepted near TNPSC road, Broadway.

The duo gave suspicious answers to the cops when quizzed after which they were detained in Flower Bazaar police station and their possessions were checked.

Police found the cash in the bag they were carrying and identified the duo as Amjad Khan (26) of Mannadi and Sheik Dawood (52) of Red Hills. Both of them work at a store in Burma Bazaar near Beach railway station, police said.

Since they had no documents to show the source of the cash, it was seized from them and handed over to the Income Tax department for further investigation. Police suspect the cash was meant for Hawala transaction.
