Remand prisoner slits own throat at Alandur court

A 26-year-old man, who was brought to the Alandur court to attend a case hearing, attempted to kill himself by slitting his throat with a blade on Tuesday.

The police said, Johnpaul, who was arrested by the Meenambakkam police for robbery, was lodged in Puzhal prison. When they found that he was involved in another case, officials brought Johnpaul to Alandur court for hearing on Tuesday. After entering the court premises, Johnpaul took a blade from his pocket and started to slit his throat. When they tried to stop him, he swallowed the blade. He was rushed to Government Stanley Medical College Hospital where he has been admitted. Further investigation is on.
