After the action, the School Education department informed the court that the student has been given admission. Justices Sasidharan and Gokul Das had initiated a suo moto action against the district administration based on reports in the media that a differently-abled student was denied admission by a higher secondary school and was made to run to various government offices seeking permission letter.

When the suo moto petition came up at 11 am, Chief Education Officer (CEO), Anjelo Irudayasamy informed the court that the admission process was under way. When asked whether the girl was physically disabled, the CEO replied that she was affected by cerebral palsy with 65 percent disability.

When the judges wanted to know whether she can be admitted after giving assistance, the CEO submitted a letter issued by Vadipatti HM stating that the student was admitted in the school. Following the production of letter the case was disposed.

According to the media reports, Divya (15) a student of the Government School at Mettunirathan, had passed SSLC scoring 75 per cent. As there was no government higher secondary school in her village she had to go to Vadipatti for higher secondary education. When she sought admission her application was rejected initially and was asked to obtain a permission letter from the CEO.

When she approached the CEO for the letter, he had asked Divya’s family to get a letter from the Collector. Even after the Collector’s letter, there was no action by the CEO. Hence, the family again visited the Collectorate on Monday.
