Rare marine species seized, six held

Police have seized 84 kg of sea cucumbers and half-a-kilo of sea horses, both endangered marine species and arrested six persons for planning to smuggle them to Sri lanka during a raid at Kodipangu coastal hamlet at Thondi, on Monday midnight.

Acting on specific inputs, a police team raided the house of a fisherman, identified as Kasinathan and seized the marine species, which protected under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, police sources said on Tuesday. The processed sea cucumbers and sea horses were packed in gunny bags. He had procured them from local fishermen.
