Rangasamy elected as leader of Opposition in Puducherry Assembly

All India N R Congress party founder and former Chief minister N Rangasamy has been unanimously elected as the legislature Party leader and also the leader of Opposition in the Assembly, at a meeting of party legislators held last night.

Mr Thirumurugan, elected from Karaikal to the territorial assembly was elected the deputy legislature party leader and N S J Jayabal as the party whip.

Mr.Rangasamy told newspersons that the party will function as a constructive opposition and will raise voice for the development of the union territory and the issues of the people. In the last two months of the Congress regime, the ruling party was implementing the schemes mooted by the N R Congress government, he added. 

Besides the N R Congress legislators, General secretary V Bhalan and party's two parliament members participated in the meeting. In the 30 member territorial assembly, the strength of the Congress is 15, N R Congress 8, AIADMK 4, DMK 2, and one independent. 

The budget session  of the assembly begins on August 24.
