Raise a stink on civic issues via video games and travel cheap

Registering civic complaints with the Greater Chennai Corporation will soon become easier as the civic body is developing a smartphone video game to receive complaints.

According to a Chennai Corporation source, the development of the game is almost over, and the game would be launched in a few days. “By playing the game, the residents can send photos of potholes, sewage leak, damaged footpaths and other complaints to the civic body. We will give tasks to the players asking them to identify potholes in their areas or sewage leaks. For every photo captured and uploaded, players will be given certain points,” the source said. The collected points could be leveraged by the players to pay transportation charges as the civic body has decided to hold talks with Metrorail officials. Unlike the Madras Waste Exchange Platform, which was developed under smart cities mission, the video game is developed by the Chennai Corporation using corporate social responsibility (CSR) fund.
