CHENNAI: Madras High Court’s Acting Chief Justice T Raja on Friday said that the contributions of physically challenged people should not be ignored and needs to be celebrated more than other people’s aid.
The ACJ said this while inaugurating an event of diagnosing and providing free artificial limbs and assistance to physically challenged people in at Vepery, Chennai.
A special three-day camp to test and offer artificial legs, wheelchairs, calipers, hearing aids, and crutches to disabled people was organized by Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS), Jaipur.
The ACJ said that even before the Disabilities Act 1995 came into force, the BMVSS organization has been providing this service to the disabled section since 1975.
“Though the organization has been doing this service since 1975 and contributed assistance to 20 lakhs physically challenged, we hear their name only today. I certainly felt bad for not knowing about them in the past,” the ACJ said.
He further requested the office bearers of the BMVSS to establish their center in Tamil Nadu too.
“There are several centers of BMVSS functioning in India and foreign nations. I request the functionaries of the BMVSS to establish their center in all the districts of TN,” the ACJ noted.
