“We will conduct a drive against private vehicles sporting fake ‘G’ stickers,” a senior police officer said on Monday. The police have been carrying out such drives against the misuse of ‘press’ sticker and fancy number plates.

“Many who are not entitled for government vehicle use their own vehicles with the name of their department in big letters stuck on the windshield. This is done mainly to impress their neighbours and to park without paying the fee by claiming to be a government official,” said an officer.

They also put the English letter ‘G’ or Tamil letter ‘Aa’ (implying Arasu) on the number plate. “Officials using such stickers on private vehicles can be pulled up,” the officer added.

The Dindigul police had recently arrested a Chennai conman who had been using a vehicle sporting a fake ‘police’ sticker.
