Projects worth Rs 54.27cr launched at Chennai Port

During the visit, the official reviewed the port's operational and financial performance and was briefed on ongoing and proposed infrastructure works, asset monetisation plans and implementation of initiatives under Maritime India Vision 2030 and Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.

CHENNAI: Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) Secretary Vijay Kumar inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for four infrastructure projects worth Rs 54.27 crore at the Chennai Port on Tuesday.

The projects include the Andaman and Nicobar passenger terminal (Rs 29.8 crore), an indigenous Vessel Traffic Monitoring System (Rs 22.58 crore), channel buoys and navigational aids (Rs 0.39 crore), and renovation of Port gate 2, for which the foundation stone was laid (Rs 1.5 crore).

During the visit, the official reviewed the port's operational and financial performance and was briefed on ongoing and proposed infrastructure works, asset monetisation plans and implementation of initiatives under Maritime India Vision 2030 and Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.

He also inspected key facilities within the port premises, including the cruise terminal and the Outer Harbour project site, to review the progress of infrastructure development.

Vijay Kumar also chaired a stakeholder meeting at the port, where shipping lines, trade bodies and other stakeholders raised issues related to ease of doing business and customer services at the port.
