“One contractor will maintain the plaza from Panagal Park to Thanikachalam Road junction, while the other contractor will maintain it from there to Boag Road junction,” the official said.

The civic body would spend around Rs 47 lakh a year for this. The contractors would place garbage collection bins, and appoint sweepers and watchmen. They would also repair the damages to ornamental tiles and others. Tenders have been floated for this, and the bids would be opened on January 30.

Under the Smart City Mission, the civic body had constructed the pedestrian plaza at a cost of Rs 39.86 crore. It was opened to the public in November. As the plaza has become popular among the people, the civic body is planning to create more pedestrian plazas.
