Preparation of vision document for third master plan launched

CHENNAI: The State Housing and Urban Development department has launched a preparation of vision document for the third master plan and kickstarted a series of workshops to educate and engage the public, on Monday.

During the first such workshop held in Chennai, Minister for Housing and Urban Development S Muthusamy, MSME minister TM Anbarasan, Chennai Mayor R Priya and other representatives took part.

Officials from the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority, Chennai Corporation, CUMTA and other stakeholder agencies participated in the workshop.

The planning authority has also launched an exclusive website so that public can share their suggestions, which could be incorporated in the vision document. Based on the vision document, master plan will be prepared. Workshops will be conducted in all the assembly constituencies in Chennai Metropolitan Area.

The second master plan for Chennai Metropolitan Area was approved in 2008 with a planning horizon to 2026.

Department secretary Hitesh Kumar Makhwana said that the third master plan will be released between December 2025 and April 2026.
