CHENNAI: The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) decided to develop an open space reserve (OSR) land extending to 16 acres as a sports complex.

A decision has been taken at a recent authority meeting in which a resolution to develop the land into a park and a playfield was placed for approval. "It is resolved to approve the proposed development of multipurpose open space with a sports complex and parks in the OSR land at Porur Ramachandra University with an extent of 16.63 acres by floating tender to fix the consultant for design and build the proposal at the OSR land," the authority resolution said.

Despite that, OSR land falls under the Greater Chennai limits, and the Area Plan Unit of the CMDA will develop the land.

Apart from the sports complex in Porur, the State government has announced the creation of a sports complex in the North Chennai Region under Singara Chennai 2.0. The announcement was made during the recent Budget session.
