Police send decoy to buy ganja, nab 2 with 30 kg dope in Porur

Two men who had hoarded 30 kg of ganja in a house have been arrested by SRMC police. The accused R Ravi (67) of Valasaravakkam and I Sarathkumar (27) of Padi bought the contraband from Andhra Pradesh for Rs 10,000 and were planning to distribute it to peddlers in the city to make at least Rs 40,000.

Based on a tip-off, SRMC police inspector S Sankaranarayanan sent a decoy to buy 1 kg and secured them red-handed on Saturday night. Police searched Ravi’s house and seized 29 kg ganja. They were remanded in judicial custody on Sunday.

Similarly, a special team of Additional Commissioner (North) A Arun secured a duo near Porur and seized 350 gram of ganja. G Rajesh (24) of Ayapakkam and M Sabarinathan (18) of Adambakkam were handed over to Mangadu police and were remanded.

In the last 15 days, city police have booked 648 cases of sale of ganja, gutkha, liquor and mawa and 706 accused have been arrested. As much as 2,190 kg ganja, 8,076 liquor bottles, 873 kg of mawa have been seized from the accused apart from 37 vehicles.
