CHENNAI: DMK Chepauk-Triplicane MLA Udhayanidhi Stalin on Saturday flagged off 50 ordinary fare buses painted in pink for easy identification by women, transgenders and differently-abled passengers, who are eligible for free travel.

Udhayanidhi flagged off the buses at the Anna Square bus terminal in the presence of Transport Minister SS Sivasankar and HR and CE minister PK Sekarbabu.

An official release said that in future all the ordinary fare buses, including the town buses, plying in the districts will be painted in pink for easy identification. The buses were painted pink in its front and rear side.

With most of the buses having electronic boards displaying the bus route, women passengers find it difficult to differentiate the ordinary fare and other fare buses. Earlier, the ordinary buses would have white board displaying the route number.

Later, DMK youth wing secretary also flagged off 10 feeder bus services from 5 Metro Rail stations at Government Estate Metro station.

The 10 small buses would ply on five routes S96 (Government Estate station to Secretariat), S97 (Guindy Metro to Velachery Vijayanagar terminus), S98 (Chinnamalai Metro to Taramani), S99 (Shenoy Nagar Metro to T Nagar terminus) and S100 (Airport Metro to Tambaram East).
