Phase II: CMRL announces driverless operation in 3 corridors

It is been reported that steps have been taken to complete all the city's metro rail projects by 2026.

CHENNAI: As the second phase of the Chennai Metro rail project is currently under way, the CMRL has announced driverless operation on three corridors — Madhavaram to Sipcot (45.8 km), Lighthouse to Poonamallee (26.1 km), and Madhavaram to Shollinganallur (47 km).

Earlier, DT Next had reported that CMRL has planned to procure 70 driverless trainsets for Phase II and further extend the Metro rail service in Phase II by 93 km in all 3 corridors. In the existing project, Corridor 3 (from Madhavaram to SIPCOT) is 45.8 km, followed by Corridor 4 (from Lighthouse to Poonamallee Bypass) with 26.1 km and Corridor 5 (from Madhavaram to Sholinganallur) is 47 km – all being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 63,246 crore.
