Two motorbike-borne youth who tried to escape after snatching a mobile from a 27-year-old man on Radhakrishnan Salai on Thursday, were chased and caught by passers-by.
The accused, Prashanth (20) and Karthik (20), both from New Washermanpet, were immediately handed over to Teynampet police. They were produced before a Magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. The incident took place around 11 am when the victim Vadivel was walking on Radhakrishnan Salai. Police have also retrieved a scooter from the accused. Though the duo had been involved in a number of similar cases, this is the first time they were apprehended.
