Passenger dies mid-air on SriLankan Airlines flight from Colombo to Chennai

CHENNAI: A 45-year-old man died due to cardiac arrest midair in a Sri Lankan flight on Friday.

The Sri Lankan Airlines flight from Colombo was heading to Chennai with 168 passengers on Friday night. When the flight was in midair Kamal Basha of Kerala suffered severe chest pain and became unconscious in his seat.

The air hostess administered first aid treatments and alerted the pilot, who then contacted the Chennai Air Traffic Control (ATC) and requested permission for a priority landing due to a medical emergency.

Then the flight landed at the Chennai airport, and the medical team who rushed inside the aircraft checked the passenger and found he had already died due to cardiac arrest. The airport police sent the body for post-mortem to the Chromepet GH.

Since the passenger died inside the aircraft, the flight was sanitised completely, and it departed for Colombo on Friday night after a delay of nearly one and a half hours.
