CHENNAI: The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) announced that the sewage pumping stations at various areas in Anna Nagar (Zone 8) will be suspended due to pipeline interconnection works on February 12 and 13.
In a statement, the Metro Water board stated that the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is carrying out pipeline interconnection works at Koyambedu Kaliyamman koil street in Kodambakkam (Zone 10).
As many as four sewage pumping stations in Anna Nagar – A, B, C pumping stations and NVN Nagar sewage pumping station will not be operational from 9 am on February 12 to 9 pm on February 13. There may be sewage overflow and stagnation in several areas from Ward 99-102 during these 36 hours.
Meanwhile, 16 areas under five zones in the city such as Royapuram (Zone 5), Thiru Vi Ka Nagar (Zone 6), Anna Nagar (Zone 8), Teynampet (Zone 9) and Kodambakkam (Zone 10) will not receive piped drinking water from 10 am on February 14 to 10 am on February 15. Due to CMRL’s main pipeline interconnection works at Purasawalkam High Road, piped drinking water will be suspended for 24 hours in 16 areas including Egmore, Chintadripet, Perambur, Otteri, Chepauk, Triplicane, Saidapet and T Nagar, stated a press note on Tuesday.
The CMWSSB authorities have advised the public to take precautionary measures and store sufficient drinking water in advance. For emergency water supply, residents can register and request water through lorries (Dial for Water) by visiting the website.
Areas without direct water connections and low-pressure zones will continue to receive water supply through lorries to water tanks and street taps without any disruption.
