Online gambling: ‘Fed up’ wife dies by suicide

The deceased was identified as Waheeda Flora. Her husband, Gnanaselvan (32) works at a leather company in Chromepet. Police said the couple used to quarrel often over the man spending time and money on online gambling.

CHENNAI: Allegedly depressed over her husband losing money in online gambling despite her warnings, a 30-year-old woman died by suicide at her residence in Pammal near Pallavaram.

The deceased was identified as Waheeda Flora. Her husband, Gnanaselvan (32) works at a leather company in Chromepet. Police said the couple used to quarrel often over the man spending time and money on online gambling.

Meanwhile, on Saturday evening, Flora picked up an argument with her husband after learning that he lost Rs 10,000 in online gambling. She told her husband that she is leaving for her parents’ place and locked herself in a room, where she committed suicide. Sankar Nagar police recovered the woman’s body and moved it to Chromepet government hospital for autopsy. Further investigations are on.
