CHENNAI: A one-year-old girl child died after accidentally falling into a bucket of water in her house in Vanagaram on Saturday. The deceased child, Deeksha, was the younger daughter of Ashwathaman (36) and Sowmya (30).

Ashwathaman is an auto-rickshaw driver, and the couple lived with two daughters at Pappammal Reddy Street in Vanagaram, said the police.

According to the police, their three-year-old elder daughter suffered from health complications recently, after which the family regularly took her to the Government Children's Hospital in Egmore.

On Saturday, after visiting the hospital, the couple returned home and Ashwathaman went for work.

Deeksha was playing while Sowmya was administering medicines to the elder daughter. After a while, when she started looking for the younger daughter, she was nowhere to be found. After frantically searching throughout the house, Sowmya found Deeksha head down inside a bucket of water in the bathroom.

Hearing Sowmya’s cries, the neighbours rushed to her aid and helped move the child to a hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
