CHENNAI: An inebriated guest worker from Assam was arrested by the city police for verbally abusing and hurling stones at a young woman near the Egmore metro station on Sunday night.

The 28-year-old woman from Kilpauk was waiting with her sister near the station to board her on a bus.

The woman is pursuing higher studies in London and is currently on a break to visit her family in the city.

The guest worker targeted them out of nowhere and hurled abuses at them and before they could realise, the man threw a stone at her.

The attacker, Amirul (26) of Assam's Nagaon, fled the scene as passersby rushed to her help. The woman was admitted to a private hospital, and the Egmore police have registered a case and arrested Amirul. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
