CHENNAI: As many as 20,898 police personnel across the state trained at Tamil Nadu Commando School (TNCS) in disaster relief and rescue operations.

Six companies of Tamil Nadu Disaster Response Force (TNDRF) units are ready.

TNDRF comprises a total of 986 police personnel and various rescue equipment and gears.

Three companies deployed to Coimbatore, Ooty and Trichy and surrounding districts.

Three other companies stationed at Avadi and will be deployed for rescue operations in Chennai, Thiruvallur, Chengelpet districts.

Three teams of Tamil Nadu Commando Force (TNCF) have been kept on standby for rescue and relief operations in Chennai City.

A 24x7 control room will be functioning out of Marudham campus (Tamil Nadu Commando school) to coordinate with State Emergency Operations Centre.

Lowlying areas in each police station limits are identified and police personnel are on standby for rescue operations

Dilapidated buildings and old trees are identified and precautionary measures are taken to ensure there are no public movement around these structures.
