No place for third front in Tamil Nadu yet

In the backdrop of AIADMK’s thumping victory and the DMK’s stellar show in becoming an equally strong opponent in the Assembly, the hopes of a third front has yet again been decimated in state politics.

Apart from the DMDK-PWF-TMC combine’s failure to bag even a single seat, the dismal performance also brought to the forefront the miniscule vote shares of these parties. “The results also prove that the voters are not ready to give even a thought to the third front,” an AIADMK functionary said.

Talks in the gloomy corridors of the offices of these parties reverberated the opinion that even their survival will be challenged if they do not align with one of the Dravidian majors in the future.

Leaders of this front maintained a stoic silence throughout the day. “To be pragmatic, we know capturing power is next to impossible, but the drubbing we received is completely unexpected,” a CPM leader said.
