CHENNAI: In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old software engineer allegedly murdered his wife just nine days after their marriage and later died by suicide in Kundrathur.

The deceased have been identified as Vijay (25) and Yuvasree (24), both software engineers. The couple had been residing in a rented house at Moondram Kattalai near Kundrathur. It is said that they were in a relationship while working at the same private software company in Ambattur.

Despite opposition from their families, the couple got married on the 13th of this month. After the marriage, they neither moved into Vijay's residence in Perungudi nor Yuvasree's home in Tiruvottiyur. Instead, with the support of friends, they rented a house in Moondram Kattalai and began living together.

According to police, frequent arguments arose between the couple within a few days of the wedding. In the early hours of Monday, another dispute is said to have broken out between them. During the altercation, Vijay allegedly pressed a pillow against Yuvasree's face, causing suffocation that led to her death. After killing his wife, Vijay reportedly died by suicide.

As the house was locked for the entire day, the neighbours, on suspicion, knocked on the door, but there was no response. Soon, the Kundrathur police were alerted, and the police who visited the spot broke open the door and found Yuvashree lying dead on the bed while Vijay was found hanging near her. A pillow with marks indicating suffocation was also found at the scene.

Police have registered a case, suspecting that the husband murdered his wife and then took his own life. The bodies were sent to the Tambaram Government District Hospital for post-mortem examination.
